Tervetuloa opiskelemaan englantia!

Kieltä oppii parhaiten kuuntelemalla, toistamalla, puhumalla ja toimimalla sekä osallistumalla aktiivisesti tuntityöskentelyyn. Kielitaitoa voi harjoittaa myös lukemalla ja kirjoittamalla. Harjoittelemme näitä kaikkia yhdessä koulussa, mutta taitoja on syytä vahvistaa myös kotona.

Yleensä jokaiselle englannin tunnille läksyä. Läksy on hyvä tehdä tai ainakin kerrata tuntia edellisenä päivänä.

Tässä on muutamia ohjeita englannin opiskeluun kotona:

• Merkitse kotitehtävät huolella tunnilla, ja jos et ymmärrä läksyä, kysy opettajalta. Muista myös selvittää poissaolon aikana läpikäydyt asiat ja niistä tulleet läksyt.
• Lue uusi kappale kotona ääneen. Ääntämisapua löydät sanaston ohjeista ja kuuntelemalla CD:tä tai äänitiedostoa netissä. Äänitiedostot ja nettitehtävät löytyvät sivussa olevan linkin alta. Avaimen saat opettajalta. 
• Huolehdi, että ymmärrät lukemasi. Tarkista epäselvät sanat sanastosta.
• Lue ja opettele kappaleen sanat ja lauseet sanastosta:
• Kirjoita tummat sanat ja lauseet sekä niiden suomennokset allekkain vihkoon. Voit keksiä (ainakin vaikeimmista) sanoista omia lauseita.
• Peitä sitten suomennokset ja yritä muistella mitä sanat tarkoittivat.
• Peitä sen jälkeen englanninkieliset sanat ja muistele tarkkaan miten ne sanottiin ja kirjoitettiin.
• Yritä tehdä työkirjan tehtävät ensin ilman kirjan apua, ja lopuksi tarkasta ja täydennä kirjaa apuna käyttäen.
• Kertaa kotona kieliopin säännöt ja tee siihen liittyvät tehtävät huolella, ajatuksen kanssa.
• Valmistaudu kokeeseen kertaamalla opettajan ohjeiden mukaan. Varaa kertaamiseen muutamia päiviä, älä jätä sitä viimeiseen iltaan.

• Kysy ja pyydä apua opettajalta, kun asiat tuntuvat vaikeilta!

Muista, että englannin opiskelua tapahtuu myös koulukirjojen ulkopuolella esim. kuuntelemalla musiikkia ja laulamalla, katsomalla ja kuuntelemalla televisiota ja elokuvia, lukemalla englanninkielisiä lehtiä tai pelaamalla pelejä opit englantia ihan huomaamatta. :)

Welcome back to school!

Hello everyone and welcome back to school!

Soon the third graders start their journey in the world of English language and on the Ice cream island. During this year we'll go through the basics of the language and learn to tell who we are and what we like, for example.

The fourth graders, on the other hand, continue on their journey from Ice cream island to the town of Windsor. We'll revise the things we have studied last year and build new information on top of that.

The same is true also for the fifth graders who'll learn new vocabulary and grammar. Additionally, they will get to know the town of East Bridgeford and the different corners of the British Isles (i.e. Great Britain and Ireland).

With the sixth graders, we'll travel around the world and visit different English speaking countries. They'll also have many new things to learn during the last year of elementary school. One of the biggest things will be the new grammar structure, simple past.

All of the groups will, hopefully, improve their skills in talking, listening, reading and writing, as well as get information about the English-speaking countries and their different areas.

So, let's start...

The spring starts with exams

After the hopefully relaxing winter holiday we'll start revising for the coming English exams.

The 4th and 6th grades have their exams on the 12th of March and the 3rd and 5th grades on the following Monday, the 19th of March.

Pauliinan sijaisena toimii Marja-Liisa Mustonen.

Opettaja asiaa

Englannin opetus hoituu elokuussa kahden opettajan voimin; maanantait ja molemmat kerhot pitää Tuula Komulainen (Rämälän koulun englannin opettaja) keskiviikon tunnit pitää Marja-Liisa Mustonen.

Tämä järjestely johtuu siitä, että Tuula tarvitsi muutamia tunteja Rahulasta elokuulle, ennen kuin hän siirtyy eläkkeelle. Viime vuoden englannin opettajamme Marja-Liisa pitää elokuussa keskiviikon tunnit.

Syyskuun alusta aloittaa Rämälän ja Rahulan koulujen yhteinen englannin opettaja Pauliina Rahikainen.

Autumn 2010

The school year has started and we have been studying English for several weeks already. The 3^rd graders have had their first “real” English lessons. It has been exciting but at the same time, learning a new language has shown its challenges. How can it be that the words are written and pronounced so differently? This has been a question often asked by the children. And this is also one of the big challenges when it comes to studying English. For the other pupils English language is already familiar, but learning a language well, always requires a lot of work, so hopefully we'll have energy for that!

During the first weeks we have been concentrating on the basic issues, we have gone through the texts in the study books, we have had several word tests already and we have revised some grammatical issues during the classes. Now it is time for the first exams. Next week on the 6^th of October the 4^th, 5^th and 6^th graders will have their first exam. For the 3^rd graders the first bigger exam will be held bit later, on the 11^th of October. After the exams, its time for the pupils to hold presentations. And maybe write something to the English blog as well. We’ll see what can can come up with :)
